Dr. C. Herrmann provided an article for N-CER, a Korean “Network for Compliance with Environmental Regulations” on the subject of impacts from the European EuP Directive on Asian companies (in Korean language). The so-called Ecodesign Directive has a huge impact on electronic products internationally, because of the global market and global supply chains.
Specifically Asian countries must prepare with much effort, as they play a dominant role in the supply chain of electronic product such as TV-sets, computers, monitors and many other IT and ICT products. The EuP is more challenging than RoHS or REACH do, because it provides much freedom in actions and is often yet misunderstood, because of not asking for thresholds or limits, but requiring product system related aspects with improvements for our environment - something that many enterprises have to learn first.
